A rare gold watch honoring the first moon landing could sell for over $2 million.
A piece of space history is heading to auction next month—Neil Armstrong’s 18k gold OMEGA Speedmaster Professional, also known as the “Tribute to Astronauts” watch. This rare timepiece was part of a limited set of 26 gold Speedmasters created by OMEGA to honor NASA astronauts.
Engraved with “Astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, Gemini 8 – Apollo 11,” the watch marks Armstrong’s legacy as the first man on the moon. It also features a special message: “To mark man’s conquest of space with time, through time, on time”, along with a unique No. 17 caseback.
The watch’s 18k gold case is paired with a burgundy red aluminum bezel, solid gold dial, and onyx hour markers, making it a truly elegant collector’s piece. Inside, it runs on the Lemania-based caliber 861 movement, offering precision and craftsmanship.
This historic watch is expected to sell for more than $2 million USD at RR Auction on April 17, 2025, at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The proceeds will go to charitable causes chosen by Armstrong’s son, Mark Armstrong, in memory of his father.
