Stone Island and New Balance Unveil the 998 "Raso Gommato" Edition

A unique blend of military-inspired fabric and sneaker heritage.

Stone Island and New Balance have teamed up again, this time giving the Made in USA 998 a fresh new look with Raso Gommato fabric. This marks the first time the two brands have worked on the 998 model, a sneaker originally introduced in 1993 with ABZORB cushioning for extra comfort.

Inspired by Military Fabric

The Raso Gommato material, first introduced by Massimo Osti in 1984, is a satin-weave cotton with a polyurethane coating, commonly used in Stone Island’s military-inspired designs. The sneaker’s upper is made from this fabric, complemented by nubuck overlays and reflective accents for a bold yet functional look.

Design Details

  • Colorway: Mauve, deep plum, and copper maroon, inspired by Stone Island’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection.
  • Signature Reflective Elements: Includes the New Balance "N" logo, heel tab, and upper accents.
  • Woven Compass Patch: Stone Island’s signature Compass logo is featured on the nylon tongue.
  • Translucent Outsole: Reveals the text "stone island product research" along with debossed "new balance 998" branding.
