A Tribute to Seiko’s Legacy in Dive Watches
Seiko is celebrating 60 years of its Prospex series with three special-edition timepieces. The collection includes:
- Prospex Marinemaster “Shinkai” 600m Saturation Diver
- Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT 60th Anniversary
- Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s 60th Anniversary
A Legacy of Dive Watches
Seiko created its first-ever diver’s watch in 1965 after professional divers reported that standard watches struggled at deep-sea depths. This led to the development of a watch with automatic movement and 150 meters of water resistance, marking the beginning of Seiko’s dive watch heritage.
The 60th Anniversary Models
Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s 60th Anniversary – Inspired by Seiko’s original 62MAS 1965 Diver, this watch features a Great Wave design in tribute to Hokusai’s iconic artwork. It runs on the 6R55 automatic movement with a three-day power reserve and 300 meters of water resistance.
Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT 60th Anniversary – Paying tribute to the 1968 hi-beat Diver, this edition features a wave-patterned dial and an engraved caseback. It comes with a short-pitch bracelet with a micro-adjustable clasp, a first for this model.
Prospex Marinemaster “Shinkai” 600m Saturation Diver – The most advanced of the three, this deep-sea-ready watch is built with lightweight titanium and superhard coatings for durability. It is powered by the new in-house 8L45 movement and is crafted at Seiko’s Shizukuishi Watch Studio.
