Celebrating 60 Years of the Speedmaster’s NASA Qualification
OMEGA and Swatch have teamed up once again to introduce the MoonSwatch 1965, a special edition that honors the Speedmaster’s NASA space flight qualification in 1965. This new timepiece blends vintage aesthetics with modern innovation, staying true to the legacy of the original Speedmaster while bringing fresh design elements.
A Tribute to Space History
The MoonSwatch 1965 keeps the classic Speedmaster look, featuring the OMEGA logo, signature hands, and wordmark. Its crisp white dial takes inspiration from the 2024 Moonwatch Professional, giving it a retro feel with a modern touch.
One of the watch’s unique features is its modified chronograph counters:
- 10 o’clock counter tracks up to 19 hours,
- 2 o’clock counter tracks up to 65 minutes,
- A subtle nod to the year 1965 when NASA approved the Speedmaster for space missions.
For optimal readability in the dark, the watch is coated with Grade A Super-LumiNova®, ensuring high visibility even in low-light conditions.
Modern Craftsmanship with Bioceramic Material
The MoonSwatch 1965 is crafted from Swatch’s Bioceramic material, giving it a lightweight and durable 42mm case in a matte gray finish. The tachymeter bezel stands out in solid black, maintaining the iconic Speedmaster aesthetic.
The watch also comes with a NASA-style VELCRO® strap in matching matte gray, making it comfortable and secure. The caseback features co-branding and the original mission statement, further celebrating its space legacy.
