Vacheron Constantin is celebrating its 270th anniversary with the release of a steel version of its legendary Historiques 222 watch. Originally launched in 1977, the Historiques 222 has become one of the brand’s most iconic designs. This modern version stays true to its vintage charm while incorporating contemporary updates.
Designed by Jorg Hysek in the 1970s, the watch features a 37mm case, a slim profile, and an integrated metal bracelet. Its fluted bezel is stamped with Vacheron Constantin’s signature Maltese cross, maintaining the elegance of the original design. The new version is powered by the ultra-thin 2455/2 caliber, which also appeared in the 2022 yellow gold re-edition.
This steel edition, nicknamed “Jumbo” by collectors, introduces a blue dial and technical enhancements for better functionality. The bracelet now has redesigned joints hidden behind visible pins for improved comfort, while a triple-blade clasp adds extra security. The caseback features a sapphire crystal, allowing a clear view of the movement, and is engraved to commemorate the brand’s anniversary.
The watch’s movement offers a higher frequency of 4 Hz for improved timekeeping accuracy and a 40-hour power reserve. Other refinements include a repositioned date window for a more balanced look and hands coated with Super-LumiNova, giving a subtle nod to vintage tritium tones.
