Nike Air Force 1 Low “VUU Panthers” Pays Tribute To Virginia Union University

The Nike Air Force 1 Low “VUU Panthers” is the latest addition to Nike’s Yardrunners series, designed by stylist Dex Robinson. The shoe highlights Virginia Union University (VUU) and celebrates the rich history of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Nike’s Yardrunners program started in 2020 to honor HBCUs by creating shoes designed by alumni. This time, Dex Robinson, a VUU graduate and well-known stylist, has brought his creativity to this special Air Force 1 design. Dex is famous for styling athletes like Jalen Hurts and Tyrod Taylor and running his own streetwear brand, DIALLO, which is loved by celebrities like Offset and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The design of the “VUU Panthers” Air Force 1 takes inspiration from VUU’s panther mascot. The shoe features black faux pony hair on the upper, giving it a sleek and unique look. Details like the iridescent border around the Swoosh, pebbled leather on the tongue and heel, and semi-translucent gum soles make this pair stand out. To mark VUU’s 160th anniversary, the shoe also comes with black and red rope laces and special metal dubraes.

The Nike Air Force 1 Low “VUU Panthers” is set to release on December 18th at select retailers like DTLR for $120. Stay tuned for updates on its release through Nike SNKRS and local Virginia stores.
